Brian Returns Home

Ever since Brian had left on Feb. 1st I had be waiting patiently for his return in July. Then one week before he was scheduled to come home he called me with some news. Brian had been offered to take a foreign language (Arabic, Farci, Chinese, Korean, etc.) at the Fort Bragg language school. This meant that he would not be coming home at all and would be spending at least another 6 months in North Carolina. This time he would be in intensive foreign language study.

I was flabbergasted. I had been counting down the days for when we would see him again and our family would be whole once more. Now I was to wait again as a single parent for another six months. I was sad, upset and accepting of the fate that had been dealt to me again. Brian said that this was a good career move for him and that he would get a pay increase and a bonus once he completed the language program. So I resigned myself to this and went back to teaching computer classes and dropping Laurana off at daycare early in the morning every day. My regular refrain in church, work or meetings was that our family was going to be apart even longer and I was not happy!

Suddenly I got a call on my cell phone on July 11th. Brian told me he was indeed coming home since the foreign language school didn't start for another week and they had no place to put him. He was coming home! He even apologized to me for the last minute notice and the fact that I had already bought plane tickets for both Laurana and I to see him in August. I was so happy! I told him not to apologize and I quickly cancelled our plane flights out to see him. Laurana was also ecstatic to be able to see her Dad again. We drove out to see Brian at the Sacramento Metro Airport on July 13th at 10PM. Laurana was exhausted and fell asleep on the way over. However, she did wake up once Brian arrived.

It was so funny to see the reactions of the relatives. When I told them Brian was coming down the escalator they said that wasn't him and they were wondering what I was talking about. But I saw him and gave him a hug. Brian was finally home again!

Brian's relatives were amazed that he had changed so much and had lost so much weight! Brian was even greeted by complete strangers who thanked him for serving his country. We were all in tears. Finally we drove home and got to bed after midnight. Poor little Laurana was so exhausted! As for me, I had to go to work the next day! Aye Ca-rumba!
