About MeMyself, my daughter at 2 1/2 and Sky the parakeet Isn't it a little narcissitic to write about yourself? Well, I will delve into these grounds anyway... My name is Sherry and I live in Davis, CA with my husband and my 5 year-old daughter. I obtained a degree in English Literature at UC Santa Barbara in 1992. After graduating from college I had lofty ideas about a high paying career and perhaps I could also get a book published. These dreams were quickly squashed when I found out that no one cared about my degree (expect for perhaps my Mom). My first real job after paying $16,000 a year for my degree was at Toys R' Us at the Returns department for $5.50/hour. After many unsuccessful job applications I found out that people were more interested in my computer experience than my English degree. I had ran a computer lab at UC Santa Barbara (the San Nicolas computer lab) in order to subsidize my education. I had trained students on how to use their computers and I also kept the computers running well despite many spats of computer virus attacks. Soon I had started a new career as a computer trainer. In 1993 the computer training boom was on. No one really knew how to use their new fangled computers, how to use a mouse and what was this "Internet" thing anyway? Sometimes I was working 6 days a week and I taught classes from San Francisco to Sacramento. I specialized in Internet training, since the Internet seemed pretty mystical at the time and only gurus (or computer geeks from college like myself) could teach them. You can see a snippet of me teaching a class on a KRON video about the Internet <Internet 101: Video Clip, QuickTime 4MB aired 2/28/1996 >. Soon however, the computer training boom came and went. I used to teach at six different computer training facilities--now only one of them is still open. I still teach classes, though on a part-time basis. If you ever want to take an HTML or FileMaker class at Innovative Solutions in Sacramento, CA I will probably be your instructor. After over a decade of computer training, getting married (1997), buying a home (1999), traveling and giving birth to my lovely daughter (2000)--I have finally realized what is missing. I still want to write! I recently joined a "Women's Only" (sorry guys) writer's group. They have encouraged me to "Blog" so that I can practice and hone my writing skills. I still want to write my novel. I have had an idea for a fantasy trilogy in my mind since I was 15 years-old. And perhaps now it is time for me to finally write it? Time will only tell... -Sherry
